Making the right decision for your health begins with choosing the right technology
Not every laser eye surgery method is suitable for every patient.
The deciding factor is not which technique is the most well-known, but which represents the best solution for your individual eyes.
In our specialized partner clinic, we exclusively utilize state-of-the-art procedures of the latest generation.
Which method is suitable for you will be determined individually only after a detailed preliminary examination.
An Overview of Modern Laser Eye Procedures
✔ ReLEx SMILE and ReLEx SMILE Pro (latest generation – minimally invasive)
✔ iLASIK / Femto-LASIK (highly precise and proven)
✔ PRK / Non-Touch Laser / LASEK (alternative for thin corneas)
For laser eye surgery, you should typically plan for a 2-night stay. This is already included in your treatment package, ensuring that all aspects of your care are seamlessly coordinated.
The "Genetic Fingerprint of the Eye"
Every eye is unique, comparable to a fingerprint.
Even with the same prescription, eyes differ in their structure and in the smallest variations of the cornea. These individual differences affect the quality of vision and can only be corrected to a limited extent with conventional methods such as eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Through modern, personalized measurement procedures, your laser eye treatment can be tailored precisely to your eye. This enables a more precise correction that goes beyond classic standard treatment.
The Benefits of Wavefront Analysis
ReLEx SMILE PRO
SMILE Pro represents the most advanced evolution in laser eye surgery and is performed at our partner clinic using the state-of-the-art ZEISS VISUMAX 800.
This technology is currently among the most advanced worldwide, enabling an exceptionally gentle and highly precise correction of refractive errors.
Unlike conventional methods, SMILE Pro does not require the creation of a corneal flap. Instead, a delicate lenticule is shaped with utmost precision inside the cornea and removed through a microscopic incision.
Due to the ultra-high speed of the VISUMAX 800, this step is completed in just a few seconds.
Why SMILE Pro Makes the Difference
✔ No corneal flap creation
✔ Minimally invasive access (approx. 2–4 mm)
✔ Extremely short procedure time
✔ High corneal stability
✔ Particularly suitable for active and athletic patients
State-of-the-Art Technology
With the ZEISS VISUMAX 800 and SMILE Pro technology, the procedure is faster, more precise, and significantly more comfortable for the patient.
Automated centration, intelligent alignment systems, and advanced sensor technology ensure that every procedure is meticulously customized to your individual eye.

Exclusively CARL ZEISS Technology – VISUMAX 800
The latest generation is in use at our partner clinic as of April 15, 2026
iLASIK – Precise Correction with Proven Technology
The iLASIK method is one of the most established procedures in laser eye surgery, combining advanced femtosecond and excimer laser technologies.
First, a thin corneal flap is created and gently folded back. The underlying cornea is then reshaped with utmost precision to correct your vision impairment.
Finally, the flap is repositioned, where it heals naturally on its own.
Key Benefits of iLASIK
✔ Highly precise correction of visual acuity
✔ Personalized customization through advanced diagnostic imaging
✔ Rapid visual recovery within a short period of time
✔ A proven method backed by years of clinical experience
Who is iLASIK suitable for?
The iLASIK method is particularly recommended for patients with sufficient corneal thickness who desire a swift visual recovery.

PRK - Non-Touch Laser
The PRK method is utilized when other procedures are not suitable, for example, in cases with a very thin cornea.
In this procedure, the outermost layer of the cornea is removed, and the correction is then performed. The healing phase is slightly longer, but the outcome is equally highly reliable.
The Treatment:
No conventional flap is created; instead, the corneal epithelium is gently ablated or detached. To protect the eye while the corneal layer regenerates (approximately 5 days), a protective bandage contact lens is inserted. This lens will be removed as soon as the corneal layer has fully regenerated. Although the removal of the lens is a simple process, your ophthalmologist will perform a thorough final assessment of your eyes at this time. Please note that in the case of a PRK treatment, it may be necessary to adjust your return flight schedule accordingly.
Which laser technology is most suitable for you?
The selection of the LASIK technique depends primarily on your suitability for Wavefront technology and whether your corneal thickness is sufficient. In addition to the standard steps of the preliminary examination, this assessment is characterized by the following specialized evaluations:
Laser eye surgery is not the right choice for every patient.
Particularly after a certain age or under specific clinical conditions, a lens implantation can offer a more effective and sustainable solution.
For this reason, this treatment option will also be explained in detail in the following step.
Treatment Options with Lens Implants
If laser eye surgery is not suitable for you, or if you are experiencing age-related vision loss, a lens implantation can offer a highly effective and long-term solution.
There are two distinct approaches available:
With trifocal, EDOF, and monofocal lenses, the eye's natural lens is replaced with a premium-grade artificial lens.
With so-called ICL lenses, however, your natural lens is preserved. The implant is placed additionally and can be safely removed if necessary.
In our partner clinic, we use only premium lenses from renowned manufacturers such as ZEISS and ALCON, including state-of-the-art trifocal, EDOF, and other high-quality lens systems.
The optimal lens for your individual needs depends on several factors, including your age, visual acuity, corneal thickness, and personal lifestyle habits.
For this procedure, you should typically plan for 4 overnight stays, which are already fully included in your treatment package to ensure optimal medical care and comprehensive follow-up examinations.
An overview of the most important lens types:
Trifocal lenses
Trifocal lenses enable sharp vision at near, intermediate (e.g., computer screens), and far distances.
Particularly suitable for:
✔ Patients aged approximately 45 and older
✔ A desire for maximum independence from glasses
✔ Daily life without reading glasses
Multifocal lenses
Multifocal lenses offer multiple vision zones, enabling clear vision at various distances.
Particularly suitable for:
✔ Patients with presbyopia
✔ A desire for reduced dependency on glasses
EDOF Lenses (Extended Depth of Focus)
EDOF lenses provide an extended range of vision with exceptionally stable and high-contrast sight.
Particularly suitable for:
✔ Patients who work extensively on computer screens
✔ A desire for natural vision
✔ Reduced glare and light reflections
Monofocal lenses
Monofocal lenses correct vision at a single fixed distance, typically for far distance.
Particularly suitable for:
✔ Patients desiring clear distance vision
✔ Compatibility with reading glasses for near tasks
Toric lenses (for astigmatism)
Toric lenses are designed to additionally correct a pre-existing astigmatism.
Particularly suitable for:
✔ Patients with astigmatism
✔ Can be combined with other lens types
ICL Lenses (Implantable Collamer Lenses)
ICL lenses are specialized, implantable contact lenses that are placed inside the eye in addition to your natural lens.
Unlike trifocal, EDOF, or monofocal lenses, your natural lens remains fully intact. The ICL lens is inserted as a supplementary measure and can be safely removed at any time if necessary.
As this is a highly precise and custom-tailored lens, it is individually manufactured for the patient in many cases. Depending on your anatomical requirements, it may therefore be necessary to order the lens in advance.
In connection with this specialized manufacturing process, a partial deposit is required for the production of the lens. Additionally, with custom-made lenses, a waiting period may occur between your preliminary examination and the actual treatment. In rare cases, a separate subsequent trip may be required for the procedure.
Particularly suitable for:
✔ Younger patients
✔ Very high refractive errors
✔ Patients unsuitable for laser eye surgery

Please ensure that you do not wear any makeup on the day of your surgery. Additionally, please avoid using eye makeup for 2 to 3 days prior to the procedure. If you wear contact lenses, you must remove them well in advance: soft contact lenses must be discontinued 2 weeks before surgery, and hard contact lenses must be discontinued 3 weeks prior.

Day 2 - Pre-operative Examination and Laser Eye Treatment
On the second day, your treatment begins with a comprehensive and highly precise preliminary examination.
During this process, all relevant measurements of your eyes are recorded in detail – including your visual acuity, corneal structure, pupil size, and other critical parameters essential for choosing the optimal treatment. This analysis is performed using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and forms the foundation for a safe and precisely plannable result.
1) Computer-controlled assessment of your refractive error
Here, intraocular pressure, corneal thickness, and pupil diameter are measured via ultrasound in dark conditions.
This is followed by the measurement of the corneal surface (topography) using a wavefront aberrometer, as well as an evaluation of tear fluid secretion.
2) Subjective assessment of your refractive error
You are likely familiar with this procedure from your optometrist, who tests various prescription strengths with you and asks: "Do you see better now, or is it rather worse?"

3) Examination of the Anterior and Posterior Segments of the Eye
For this examination, your pupils will need to be dilated. This involves administering special ophthalmic drops into your eyes. Please do not be alarmed, as you may experience a mild burning sensation for a few minutes. After a 30-minute absorption period, the posterior segment of the eye will be examined using a slit-lamp microscope. This allows us to inspect the retina, the optic nerve, and the macula. The examination of the anterior segment focuses on the cornea, the pupil, and the lens. Following this procedure, your eyes will be highly sensitive to light. Please be absolutely sure to bring sunglasses with excellent UV protection with you!

4) Discussion of the Medical Findings
Once all your examinations are completed, your results will be thoroughly discussed with the head physician in charge of your treatment. Provided these preliminary assessments do not reveal any concerns or contraindications, your treatment date will be finalized on the very same day.
The ReLEx SMILE laser procedure takes approximately 10 seconds per eye.
5. The Procedure – Swift and Precise
The actual treatment takes place on the very same day and is customized precisely to your eyes. In the preparation area, your eyes will be anesthetized with special drops to ensure the procedure is entirely pain-free for you. Afterwards, you will be accompanied into the treatment room and positioned comfortably on a treatment recliner. Upon request, a mild sedative can also be administered.
In the treatment room, you will be welcomed by an experienced clinical team and positioned comfortably on a recliner. The eye area is prepared, and the eye to be treated is gently held open using a lid speculum.
During the procedure, you simply focus on a point of light. State-of-the-art systems such as the ZEISS VISUMAX 800 or iLASIK technology manage the precise control and automatically compensate for even the smallest movements.
The actual laser application takes only a few seconds per eye and is performed with the utmost precision.

6) Following the treatment of both eyes
Immediately after the procedure, your eyes will be carefully examined, and you will have the opportunity to rest for a short while.
A noticeable improvement in your vision is typically apparent just a short time later. During the initial hours, you may experience mild sensitivity to light or an unfamiliar sensation; this is completely normal and usually subsides quickly.
Many patients are already able to see without glasses and gently resume their daily activities on the very same day.
Day 3 - Post-Treatment Evaluation and Return Flight
The following morning, your final follow-up examination will be conducted by the specialist. During this visit, your visual acuity will be assessed to ensure that your recovery is progressing optimally.
During this consultation, you will receive your personal medical report as well as all essential instructions for your ongoing aftercare. Any remaining questions will be thoroughly addressed to ensure you can depart with complete peace of mind.
Following this, you will be fully prepared to begin your journey home.
Departure and Final Medical Inspection
Approximately 3 to 4 hours before your departure time, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the airport. Until then, the day is yours to spend at your leisure.
Prior to your departure, your final post-operative examination will take place, during which you will receive all essential documentation and your surgical report. This consultation will address any remaining questions and provide you with detailed guidelines for your ongoing recovery process.
Following this, the clinical team will bid you farewell.
We wish you a safe and pleasant journey home.
