Key considerations to bear in mind during your rehabilitation process
Please take the medications prescribed by your physician (antibiotics, pain relievers, etc.) regularly after your surgery, strictly adhering to your designated dosage schedule.
Please strictly avoid any alcohol consumption until you have completed your full course of medication.
For your safety and optimal recovery, please refrain from using cigarettes, e-cigarettes, nicotine gum, and any other nicotine-containing products until at least 2 to 4 weeks after your surgery.
Following your surgery, you must avoid visiting the sea, swimming pools, Turkish baths, solariums, or saunas for a specified period. These crowded or humid environments carry a high risk of accidental physical impact to the nose or potential post-operative infection.
Following your surgery, you may resume your social activities, provided that you strictly adhere to your physician's recommendations. However, to ensure optimal healing, it is advised to avoid jogging for the first 3 weeks and to refrain from heavy lifting or strenuous physical exertion for a period of 2 months.
During the postoperative phase, it is recommended to use a double pillow for both resting and sleeping, particularly until the silicone nasal splints are removed. Additionally, keeping your head elevated in an upright position will help prevent the formation of edema.
Due to its position on the face, the nose is highly vulnerable to external impacts. A minor lapse in attention or an accident can damage the nose and cause significant trauma. An impact to the nose can also damage the surrounding tissue, cartilage, and bone structure. Following surgery, a nose whose natural anatomy has been altered is even more sensitive to trauma. It takes time for the nasal cartilage, bone, and surrounding tissues to fully heal after the procedure, making it essential to protect the nose throughout this recovery process.
Smiling and pursing your lips may be temporarily restricted. Please try to avoid elevating your upper lip higher than necessary. Facial expressions that strain the facial muscles should be avoided, as these movements put pressure on the nasal area and can cause discomfort.
Foods that are difficult to chew should be avoided for a period of time, as they place unnecessary strain on the facial muscles. Instead, we highly recommend consuming soft, easily chewable foods.
Glasses must not be worn for 6 months following the surgery. It is highly recommended to use contact lenses during this period.
Sutures and crusts inside the nose must not be touched. Touching the sutures can lead to an infection.
If you need to clean your nose, please do not blow it forcefully. This action is not recommended, as it can cause intranasal bleeding. You may gently clean your nose using slow movements with a cotton swab, as advised by your physician.
One of the aspects patients must pay closest attention to following a rhinoplasty is teeth brushing. In particular, extreme care must be taken around the upper jaw. After a rhinoplasty procedure, a soft-bristled toothbrush should be used. The upper lip should be kept as still and relaxed as possible.
During the first week, please avoid heavy lifting, strenuous exercise, stress, and keeping your head lowered for extended periods, as these activities can increase blood pressure in the nasal area and trigger bleeding.
The nasal skin is particularly sensitive following rhinoplasty; therefore, protecting it is of the utmost importance. As sunlight can irritate the healing nasal tissues, it is essential to shield your nose from sun exposure as much as possible. Additionally, maintaining a consistent and comfortable room temperature will support your healing process and overall well-being after surgery.

Potential side effects during the rehabilitation process
You may experience nausea after your procedure. To alleviate and manage this, please contact your physician and take the medications they have recommended.
Following your surgery, you may experience some discomfort or pain. To effectively manage this pain as the medications administered during your procedure begin to wear off, it is essential that you take the medications prescribed by your surgeon exactly as directed.
It is normal to experience edema and swelling after the surgical procedure. The most effective method to minimize this swelling is the application of cold compresses.
Please note: Cold compresses should be applied for 10 minutes per hour. Do not exceed 10 minutes per application.
Following rhinoplasty, you may experience sensitivity in your upper lip, upper teeth, and the roof of your mouth. You might feel some discomfort in these areas while chewing or brushing your teeth; however, please be assured that this is a temporary condition. As the post-operative edema gradually subsides, this sensitivity during brushing will also diminish.
When the bandages and cast are removed, your nose will appear swollen. This is a completely normal part of the healing process and will gradually improve over time. There is no need for concern.
Bruising is a normal part of the healing process following a rhinoplasty. The extent of bruising varies from patient to patient. Some patients experience no bruising at all, while others have only very minimal bruising. Because the nose is fitted with a cast that exerts pressure on the nasal skin, bruising may be more pronounced around the eye area, where the skin is thinner and more pliable.
Patients who have had a silicone sponge or nasal splint placed may experience an urge to sneeze. Patients might think they are coming down with a cold or the flu; however, this sensation is actually caused by the silicone. Rest assured, once the silicone is removed, this feeling resolves quickly. Sneezing is not a concern while the silicone remains in the nose.
Since silicone splints will remain in the nose for a few days after the surgery, you may experience nasal congestion. This can lead to a dry mouth, as breathing will occur through both the nose and the mouth. Please drink plenty of fluids to prevent dry mouth and chapped lips.
It is common to experience a light, pinkish discharge from the nose following surgery. However, if you observe active, heavy bleeding, please contact us immediately.
Nasal massage is highly important for reducing postoperative edema and accelerating lymphatic drainage. This massage must be applied with utmost care. You can access the instructional video demonstrating how to perform the massage via the link.

Scar management during the healing process
Scar treatment should begin 21 days—exactly three weeks—following your surgery and be maintained for at least three months. Visually optimal results are typically achieved when treatment is continued for six months. It is entirely normal for the appearance of the scar to continue maturing for up to a year post-operatively. Please do not feel discouraged or discontinue your care regimen if progress seems gradual during this period. Consistent, diligent scar care and treatment significantly improve the long-term aesthetic and healthy healing of the tissue compared to untreated skin.
Bio-Oil should be applied to cleansed skin and gently massaged into the scar in the morning and evening. Please note that this scar treatment must not be used on open wounds.
After the Bio-Oil has been thoroughly absorbed into the skin in the morning, a silicone ointment is then applied. Most silicone gel creams contain the same active ingredients. Therefore, it is sufficient to ask your pharmacist for a "silicone ointment for scar treatment."
Unlike Bio-Oil, the silicone gel should be applied thinly, similar to an adhesive, and without massaging. The silicone gel formulation protects the incision site and prevents swelling. Consequently, care must be taken to ensure the gel is applied evenly and entirely covers the scar.
In the evening, a silicone sheet should be placed over the Bio-Oil. Silicone gel sheets are reusable and can be washed with soap and water to extend their lifespan for up to two weeks or longer. They work similarly to silicone gels, but are more effective. Silicone sheets are applied directly to the scar as soon as the wound has healed or the sutures have been removed from the incision. Silicone sheet therapy is active 24 hours a day and is therefore significantly more effective than the alternative silicone gel. However, treatment with the cream is considered equally effective if allowed to remain on the scar for 8 to 12 hours a day.
A crucial factor in the success of scar treatment is the condition of the skin. Healthy nutrition is fundamental to healthy skin. Wound healing is significantly accelerated by the intake of zinc and vitamin C supplements.
Since the surgical sutures will dissolve within 6 months, small acne-like wounds may form at these sites as a reaction. This is a completely normal part of the healing process. Scar treatment should be avoided on these open wounds; instead, an antibiotic cream should be applied.
Our clinical team is pleased to assist you in selecting the most appropriate topical treatment or medication.

Important Information Regarding Your Rehabilitation Process
Following your surgery, the sutured area will be secured with Omnistrips (tapes) to protect your incision site. The purpose of these strips is to minimize tension on the suture line and reduce the appearance of the resulting scar. You may safely remove the Omnistrips (tapes) after 10 days while showering. Removing them under the shower is recommended, as the moisture helps to gently loosen the adhesive's grip on the skin. Please peel the strips off slowly and carefully. If a strip does not come off easily, do not pull forcefully, as this can irritate or damage the healing skin.
If you have any concerns or questions regarding your nasal care, if you have accidentally bumped your nose, or if you experience active bleeding, please contact us immediately. Staying in close communication with your surgeon will ensure your comfort and peace of mind throughout the healing process.
It is of the utmost importance that you exercise extreme caution until your rhinoplasty is fully healed. Since it takes time for the nose to achieve its desired shape following the procedure, you must diligently protect your nose during the post-operative recovery period.
The nasal spray prescribed by your doctor should be used starting 1 day after your surgery.
Following your surgery, the nasal splints (gauze) placed at the tip of the nose should be changed if they become damp.
If you follow all necessary steps correctly and in a timely manner, your recovery process will be very comfortable. Please remember: even if you feel well, adhering strictly to the post-operative protocol is just as crucial as the surgery itself.
