DAY 2 - Pre-operative Assessment and Surgery
The Preliminary Examination
1) Computer-assisted determination of your refractive error: This procedure measures intraocular pressure, corneal thickness, and pupil diameter via ultrasound in a darkened environment. Additionally, mapping of the corneal surface (topography) is performed using wavefront-aberrometry, along with an evaluation of tear fluid secretion.
2) Subjective determination of your refractive error: You will certainly be familiar with this process from your optometrist, who tests various lens strengths with you and asks: "Do you see better now, or is it rather worse?"
3) Examination of the Anterior and Posterior Segments of the Eye
For this examination, your pupils will need to be dilated. This involves administering special ophthalmic drops into your eyes. Please do not be alarmed, as you may experience a mild burning sensation for a few minutes. After a 30-minute absorption period, the posterior segment of the eye will be examined using a slit-lamp microscope. This allows us to inspect the retina, the optic nerve, and the macula. The examination of the anterior segment focuses on the cornea, the pupil, and the lens. Following this procedure, your eyes will be highly sensitive to light. Please be absolutely sure to bring sunglasses with excellent UV protection with you!
4) Discussion of the Medical Results
Once all preliminary examinations are completed, your attending ophthalmologist will discuss the results of your examination with you in detail. Based on your individual measurements, we will determine which treatment method is suitable for your eyes.
Depending on the examination results, either VISX Star S4 IR (iLASIK), ZEISS VisuMax 800 (SMILE Pro), or both procedures may be considered. If both methods are medically equally suitable, the ophthalmologist will explain the differences, benefits, and specific features of both techniques in detail. Following this consultation, you will be able to make an informed decision on which treatment method you prefer.
After your consultation with the physician, payment for your treatment will be processed directly at the clinic. Payment can be made in cash (Euros), via debit card, or by credit card. Please note that card payments are subject to a 7% surcharge. Alternatively, you may transfer the treatment amount to our German corporate account prior to your arrival. For full payments received via bank transfer at least 30 days prior to your arrival, you will receive a 2% discount.

Ferries from Üsküdar – the most scenic way to explore Istanbul
For guests wishing to visit Istanbul's historic Old Town and its most renowned landmarks, the city is easily accessible via the ferry services departing from Üsküdar. You can comfortably take a short taxi ride from the hotel to the Üsküdar ferry terminal. From there, ferries depart for the European side of the city every few minutes. To visit the historic peninsula—including the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazaar, the Spice Bazaar, or the Galata Bridge—please select a ferry bound for Eminönü. If you plan to visit the famous Taksim Square, the vibrant shopping avenues, restaurants, cafes, and nightlife, we recommend taking a ferry to either Beşiktaş or Kabataş.
Sights & Local Attractions
The crossing takes only about 10 to 20 minutes depending on your destination and is itself one of Istanbul's most beautiful attractions. During the journey, you can enjoy a unique view of the Bosphorus, the famous Maiden's Tower (Kız Kulesi), historic palaces, mosques, and the city's impressive skyline.
